F-5E Tiger II History:

The F-5E Tiger II is a single-seat version for the Tunisian Air Force.

In 1950, the F-5 started its life as a privately-funded light fighter program by Northrop. The first generation F-5A Freedom Fighter entered service in 1960. During the Cold War, there were over 800 produced through 1972 for US Allies. The F-5 proved to be a successful combat aircraft for US Allies, but it didn't entered front-line service with the US due to diverging priorities of the US services. A few surplus F-5As and F-5Es have been sold to private owners.

In 1970, Northrop's F-5A-21, which subsequently became the F- 5E, was designated to replace the F- 5A. It was lengthened and enlarged, with increased wing area and more sophisticated avionics, and was initially having an Emerson AN/APQ-153 radar. The F-5E eventually acquired its official name Tiger II. In its service life, the F-5E experienced numerous upgrades. The F-5E Tiger II has a crew capacity of 1. It has a maximum speed of 917 kn and a ferry range of 2,010 nmi.

The F-5E Tiger II production amounted to 1,400 including all versions and production ended in 1987. Various F-5 versions remain in service with many other nations. Singapore has approximately 49 modernized and re-designated F-5S and F-5T aircraft. The F-5 was also developed into a reconnaissance version, the RF-5 Tigereye.

In 1978, the first M1 tank was produced, the M1A1 in 1985 and the M1A2 in 1986. There were 3,273 M1 tanks produced for the US Army. 4,796 M1A1 tanks were built for the US Army, 221 for the US Marines and 880 co-produced with Egypt. In March 2004, the Australian Army purchased 59 US Army M1A1 tanks to enter service from 2007. The contract was signed in 2005 and the first five were handed over in February 2006 at GDLS in Lima, Ohio. In September 2006, the first 18 tanks were delivered to the Australian Army at the School of Armor in Victoria and the remaining 41 are scheduled to arrive in Australia in March 2007.

In June 2006, Saudi Arabia requested the foreign military sale of 58 M1A1 tanks and the upgrade ones and the 315 M1A2 and the 315 M1A2 already in the Saudi inventory to M1A2S configuration. The upgrade involves to a 'like new' condition, similar to the US Army Abrams Integrated Management Program (AIM) and a digital enhancement package for the A1, which is the M1A1D.

In August 2007, Egypt requested the foreign military sale of an additional 125 M1A1 tanks, which would bring the country's fleet to 1,005 M1A1 tanks.

The M1A1 tank incorporates steel-encased depleted uranium armor. Armor bulkheads separate the crew compartment from the fuel tanks. The top panels of the tank are designed to blow outwards in the event of HEAT projectile penetration. The tank is protected against Nuclear, Biological and Chemical (NBC) warfare. In August 2006, General Dynamics Land Systems was awarded a contract to produce 505 Tank Urban Survivability Kits (TUSK) and was scheduled to enter service on M1A1 tanks in late 2007.

History of the C-5 Galaxy Camouflage

The C-5 Galaxy is a strategic airlifter type of aircraft manufactured by Lockheed-Georgia Co. Its maiden flight was on the 30th of June 1968 and was introduced commercially in 1970. Its primary user was the United States Air Force and it is still operational up to this date with 52 produced aircrafts active and 42 reserved. It is one of the largest aircrafts in the world and the largest American military transport. It was designed to carry oversized cargo.

The C-5A was produced during 1968 to 1973. It was the original version of the C-5 Galaxy. In 1970s a crack on its wings was found that caused its cargo weight restriction. The C-5A was redesigned to install new strengthened wings. The new set of wings is made of an aluminum alloy that didn't exist during its first production.

The C-5B was produced on 1985 to 1989.It was an improved version of the original variant of C-5 Galaxy. It allows four minimum flight crews including the Pilot, co-pilot, and two flight engineers. It has a payload of 270,000 lb; length of 247 feet 1 inches; wingspan of 222 feet 9 inches; height of 65 feet 1 inches. It has a maximum speed of Mach 0.79; cruise speed of Mach 0.77; range of 2,400 nmi; and service ceiling of 34,000 feet. Fifty new variants of C-5B were delivered to the United States Air Force from 1986 to 1989.

History of the DC-6 American

Originally a response to a military airlift requirement near the end of World War II, the Douglas DC-6 was reworked after the war to compete with the Lockheed Constellation in the long-range transport class. Built between 1946 to 1959, the DC-6 became Douglas' most successful four-engined piston airliner. More than 700 aircraft have been produced, and many still fly today in cargo, military and wildfire control roles.

During World War II, the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) was impressed with the C-54 Skymaster's long range and payload capabilities, and thus commissioned the XC-112 project in 1944. The USAAF wanted an expanded, pressurized version of the popular C-54 with improved engines. However, by the time the XC-112 flew, the war had ended, and the USAAF requirement no longer stood. Douglas continued development nevertheless, converting the XC-112 into a civil transport which became the DC-6. The first production aircraft was delivered in March 1947.

Douglas designed four basic variants of the DC-6. The DC-6A was optimized for freight work, while the equivalent passenger version was the DC-6B. The DC-6C was a convertible passenger/freight model. Military versions, many of which ended up in civilian hands later on, were designated C-118 under the Air Force and R6D1 under the Navy.

American Airlines (AA), the world's largest airline in terms of total passengers-miles transported and fleet size, operated the DC-6 from the 1940s until 1966. The aircraft was AA's answer to the Constellations of Trans World Airlines. The DC-6 proved to be an outstanding aircraft and was the backbone of AA's fleet in the late 1940s and early 1950s. It was the last piston-powered aircraft used by the airline

This Lockheed Martin X-33 model spacecraft will liven up any room and spacecraft enthusiast will be astonished for its impressively grandeur attributes. This X33 model spacecraft is unquestionably a fine gift, perfect for just about anyone.

X-33 Lockheed-Martin History:

VentureStar was Lockheed Martin's proposed design for a single-stage-to-orbit reusable launch system. The X-33 was a technology demonstrator for NASA's "next-generation" of space launch vehicle named Venture Star. On July 2, 1996, NASA selected Lockheed Martin Skunk Works of Palmdale, California, to design, build, and test the X-33 experimental vehicle for the RLV program.

On March of 1999, the X-33 was scheduled to complete its first flight from Edwards Air Force Base, CA. It made about fifteen flights during a ten-month period and reach speeds of fifteen times that of sound at altitudes of up to fifty miles. The X-33 would flight test a range of technologies that NASA believed it needed for single-stage-to-orbit reusable launch vehicles (SSTO RLVs), such as metallic thermal protection systems, composite cryogenic fuel tanks for liquid hydrogen, the aerospike engine, autonomous (unmanned) flight control, rapid flight turn-around times through streamlined operations, and its lifting body aerodynamics.

Test flights involve: (1) launching the X-33 from a vertical position like a conventional space launch vehicle--this reduces the weight of the landing gear and wheels to only that required to support an unfueled vehicle (baseline dry weight of vehicle is approximately 29,500 kg (65,000 lb) and fueled weight of X-33 is approximately 123,800 kg (273,000 lb)); (2) accelerating the vehicle to top speeds of Mach 15 (15 times the speed of sound or approximately 18,000 km/hr (11,000 mph) and reaching high altitudes up to approximately 75,800 m (250,000 ft); (3) shutting down the engines; gliding over long distances up to 1,530 km (950 mi) downrange of the launch site followed by conducting terminal area energy maneuvers to reduce speed and altitude; and (4) landing like a conventional airplane.

Reliving the glory of aviation is best commemorated with a Black Widow YF-23 Model Airplane from Warplanes!

YF-23 Black Widow II History:

The Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23 was a prototype fighter aircraft designed for the United States Air Force. It was entered in the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) program in the early 1980s, but lost out to the Lockheed YF-22, which entered production as the F-22 Raptor.

Two YF-23 prototypes were designed and built by Northrop and McDonnell Douglas as part of the demonstration and evaluation phase of the ATF selection program, which concluded in 1990. One prototype was powered by twin Pratt and Whitney YF119 turbofan engines, while the other was installed with two General Electric YF120 turbofan engines. The YF-23 employed stealth characteristics and was capable of supersonic cruise flight without afterburner. The aircraft achieved a speed of Mach 1.8 during the program.

There was no official USAF nickname for the YF-23A, thus the Northrop YF-23A team personnel chose the name "Black Widow II" to commemorate the Northrop P-61 Black Widow, the first American aircraft specifically designed as a night fighter.

In April 1991, the Air Force selected Lockheed's YF-22 design for full-scale development. According to the USAF, factors in the selection for production of the F-22 were better design for maintainability, greater potential for future development, and slightly lower cost. Supporters of the YF-23 believe that the YF-23 should have won the ATF competition due to its agility, stealth and greater fuel capacity.

History of the B-58 Hustler Strategic Bomber

The Convair B-58 Hustler was the first operational jet bomber capable of Mach 2 supersonic flight and was developed for the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command in the late 1950s.

The B-58 program started in February 1949. The B-58 design was the first "true" USAF supersonic bomber program. Its design was based on a delta wing with a leading-edge sweep of 60 degrees with four General Electric J79-GE-1 turbojet loading. It has a crew of three, the pilot, bombardier, navigator and defensive systems operator. The B-58 carries a single nuclear weapon in a streamlined MB-1C pod under the fuselage. The B-58 has a crew of three and has a maximum speed of Mach 2.1

The B 58 is extremely expensive and was reported that each B-58As costs much more than its weight in gold. It is a complex aircraft requiring considerable maintenance, requiring specialized equipment.

On January 16, 1970, the last B- 58s in operational service retired and was replaced by the FB-111A. A total of 116 B-58s were produced; 30 trial aircraft and 86 production B- 58A models. A number of B-58s were used for special trials of various kinds and several variants such as the B 58B and B-58C were proposed by Convair, but were never built.

History of the A-4 Skyhawk Blue Angels

The Blue Angels chose the A-4 in the early '70s, replacing the thundering F-4. By adopting the Skyhawk, the team now had an aircraft that was much more aerobatic than before. This allowed for a tighter display and the ability to keep much of the performance in front of the audience.

The A-4 Skyhawk was manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Corporation and was designed by Ed Heinemann. Its primary users are United States Navy and United States Marine Corps. Its maiden flight happened on the 22nd of June 1954 but it was introduced in 1956.

The A-4 Skyhawk is a lightweight, single engine attack aircraft. It is said to be one of the most famous attack aircrafts ever designed. The short range attack and close support aircraft was originally intended for the U.S. Navy and Marine forces. The A-4F variant was a refinement of A-4E. It has extra avionics housed in a hump on the fuselage spine. Some of this variant served with Blue Angels acrobatic team during 1973 to 1986.

The Blue Angels are the best U.S. military aerobatic team. They fly different kind of aircrafts including Grumman Hellcats, Bearcat, Panther, and the Skyhawk. The A-4 Skyhawk was chosen in the early 70s over F-4 as Skyhawk is said to be more fuel efficient than the Phantom. It was chosen because it was the aircraft that was more appropriate that time in the midst of an oil crisis. With the A-4 used by the team, different display was done. The Skyhawk was more aerobatic than the other aircraft. This allowed them to have a tighter display and be able to keep their performance in front of the audience.

The pilots of the Blue Angels enjoyed flying the A4 Skyhawk because it is easy to maintain and the accident rate was quite low. Eventually, there were new aircrafts that replaced the Skyhawk. It retired in 1976 for the U.S. Navy while in 1998 in U.S. Marine Corps. However, it is still active in other countries.
