RC plane flies around Statue of Liberty
"The video was shot with a remote-controlled aircraft that has one video camera feeding images back to the operator, along with a second, passive camera taking the video that was edited together for the official release. The video was shot between 7 and 8am, those being the only hours they could safely avoid air traffic. While the police were curious about what was happening, no arrests were made, and the creators of the video praise the police and the TSA for their professionalism." This is generating a lot of online "buzz," and we can't help but think that it sets a poor example for our hobby. If many more pilots think stunts like this are fun, we could soon find ourselves shut out of flying fields near metropolitan areas --or worse! What do you think about this stunt? P.S. Thanks to everyone for the spirited discussion. I think it would be irresponsible to ignore this stunt and pretend that it didn't happen or couldn't happen again. I suspect the person who did this was not an AMA member, but it makes me wonder if the AMA can revoke membership when someone does something like this. If a member of your club did something like this, would you vote him or her out? |
